Your Space

“I need my space”, “I need so ME time”, “I want to digitally detox”, “I want to cut off for a bit”; these are things we have heard and said ourselves. How often have we practiced or implemented them. Well the answer would be “I do try to but my life is so hectic or I have so many responsibilities or I have things to manage because of which I don’t get time for myself.

While it is important to be there for others, it is equally if not more to be there for ourselves – for our mind and our body. Even the safety instructions during a flight tell you to put your oxygen mask before helping others.

Being there for parents, siblings, partner, friends is great, but in the process, we cannot take away our individuality. It makes any relationship grow stronger.

This ME time or private space is important to know yourself better, rejuvenate yourself, look back on things (that you have done or said), do things that you love, remove any negativity that you may have and lastly focus more.

I try to cut off from the world in different ways – first and foremost, keep my phone away, switch off the television, I chant, I exercise, I listen to music or read or at times do nothing but just stare at the clear blue sky. Having a private space also means there are certain things that no one needs to know. Keep it to yourself. Everything does not need to be told to everyone, especially social media. There should only be a few loved ones (family, friends etc) who are allowed to enter into your inner circle and know you in and out.

Another very important reason to have your private space is to protect yourself from certain unwanted things around you. It will surely help you reduce stress.
