Corporate world indeed is weird. Since childhood we are taught….beta padhai is very important because if you don’t study…achi Naukri kaise milegi? In our head, we have imagined that if we work hard now, we are going to get an amazing job in probably an MNC where we would be sent abroad for some training. We will be all suited booted, with a fancy bag, laptop, a high end phone etc….not to miss a “badaa sag har” and a black sedan, which btw is driven by your white uniformed driver with a hat who opens the door for you. Aspirational isn’t it? It doesn’t end here. We have also imagined attending high end events and parties, doing some great numbers and brand positioning for the organization….sardar khush hoke abroad bhejega…big increments, huge bonus and not the forget the fancy designation starting with “Chief”.
Pop…the bubble bursts and we fall back on mother earth only to realize that this hard working, dedicated worker is still traveling by train, having a haversack (the laptop bag given by office) with a normal phone. Suits & boots are out of the window…coz Mumbai doesn’t give us a variety of weathers you see….it’s consistent….garmi all through the year. Oh of course, there are the monsoons which start in June and how…floods, manholes, traffic jams…but despite all this, a true Mumbaikar will always love his city. Ok sorry…went on an emotional track.
Coming back to our “dedicated and committed” worker in office who has seen some losers climbing up the ladder….not literally silly!! Climbing up the corporate ladder….let me tell you how. Unfortunately some of our “principled” parents did not teach us that. It’s a very simple recipe. All you need to do is tell your seniors/boss “wow Sir/Ma’am, this was so inspiring…you are really amazing”, “don’t worry Sir/Ma’am…I’m there na…I will manage it”, “Of course boss…it will be done” and the list goes on.
Have you heard of FILO? Not the fish…I’m sure people who have studied Accounts will know. It’s called First In Last Out….that’s what you need to do in office….be the first one to enter (probably even open the taala) and the last one to leave (switch off the lights after the boss leaves). It shows how committed you are towards your work.
See…it’s so simple!! The next thing you know is Bade sahab ne tankhva badha di and of course thoda extra pocket money bhi de diya (bonus guys!!)….the rest will just follow….branded clothes…house in a posh locality…and oh..these days there is another fad which I forgot about….you need to have a cute little dog or cat who you spend your Sundays with to relax, unwind and rejuvenate.
If you have all this….congratulations!!!! You have arrived in life! You have become part of the “Inner Circle”. You have officially become the CCO…Chief Chaatu Officer!!
So the right ingredients put in the right measure with a little bit of tadka of ass licking will literally take you places. See it’s simple…kahan hamare bechare parents kehte the…beta mehnat karo…work hard and success will follow. That too is a route and definitely the better one but may take slightly longer. The choice is ours.
