With the new year, new month, new goals and new determinations, we have an opportunity to celebrate achievements and pledge together to make dynamic progress. Let’s advance with a strong life force, aiming to achieve kosen rufu while challenging our own human revolution in the same spirit as our eternal mentor Dr. Daisaku Ikeda.
As we advance with courage and hope towards a new dawn, let's transform poison into medicine by spreading the highly effective medicine of the mystic law fulfilling our shared wow of mentor and disciple.
The purpose of practice is to deepen our faith and the purpose of study is to support practice. We can also say that practice is led by faith and that study follows practice thus we must not practice in a way that contradicts our faith. And we must not engage in study in a way that it obstructs our practice.
With all this, our Prayers are extremely important.
Everything starts from prayer. If we lose sight of prayer and fail to transform our lives in actuality, then even the most eloquent speeches and high-minded arguments will all be just empty theory and illusions.
Prayer without action is just wishful thinking, and action without prayer will be unproductive.
There is a very interesting passage that Sensei talks about in one of his writings where he is explaining how prayers offered by a practitioner of the Lotus Sutra will always be answered and he is connecting it by citing different examples. Like an echo answers a sound, as a shadow follows a form, as the reflection of the moon appears in clear water, as a mirror collects dewdrops, as a magnet attracts iron, as amber attracts particles of dust, and as a clear mirror reflects the colour of an object.
Prayer transforms our lives both spiritually and physically. It produces a change in our hearts and in the depths of our lives. And this change enables us to positively influence our environment. In fact, our chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo enables us to confront and transform the fundamental source of suffering and delusion at the core of our lives and reveal and develop an inner state of absolute happiness.
