Rippled sand dunes, red-rock desert of Wadi Rum, and the mysterious Lost City of Petra – That’s Jordan for you!
It is a land with a seamless blend of ancient wonders, natural marvels and rich culinary heritage. Not to miss the most good-looking men and women.
Let me start with the mystique and most romantic Petra. As much as it is beautiful and bright in the day, Petra by night has its own charm and when you get to witness someone going down on his knee to propose to the love of his life under the stars, it just adds to the beauty. It truly is a place where history and romance intertwine. There is something about Petra which takes you back in time no matter what age group you are. The carved towering cliffs and the illuminated ruins are a sight to watch.
My most favourite was Wadi Rum. It truly is a desert symphony! In the beginning when we were told that our driver will drop us inside the desert by 5:00 pm and pick us up next morning at 9:00 am, though of course there was going to be a guide with us throughout, we started thinking of the weirdest things – what are we going to do for so many hours, there will be no network, what about food, it will be so cold etc etc.
As decided, we reached inside the desert at 5 pm. As the sun dipped below the horizon, it casted a warm glow over the rippled sand dunes, no wonder the y Lawrence of Arabia found solace in this vast desert. Gradually it started getting darker and the natural light from a blanket of starts made the entire experience truly surreal.
Our guide made us some curry and rice for dinner and as we were getting ready to dig in, we realized it was chicken curry!!! We flashed back to a few hours earlier where we had clearly mentioned that we are vegetarians but surely, he had not understood a word of what we had said. Anyways there was some hummus and pita for us and our favourite saviour – Theplas!!!
The next morning began with a Jeep safari through the otherworldly landscape which witnessed the towering rock formations, ancient petroglyphs, and a silence that spoke volumes.
Our next stop was Dead Sea and then to the vibrant corals of the Red Sea; Jordan's scenic beauty extends beyond the desert landscapes. From putting a mud pack on the entire body and floating effortlessly in the hypersaline waters of the Dead Sea to snorkelling in the Red Sea's crystal-clear depths provided a refreshing contrast to the desert adventures.
Coming to Jordanian men and women…each one was more stunning than the other…felt like bringing one back to India 😉 and what can I say about the cuisine – the shawarmas, the falafels, the baklawas…gosh I think I’m going to put on a kilo just thinking about it.
To those seeking a journey beyond the ordinary, Jordan beckons with open arms where history, nature and flavour are waiting to be explored.
