Ever imagined the number of contradictory thoughts that we get in our head on a daily basis? And then these thoughts contradict our actions. There are certain feelings that we go through, but they contradict our beliefs and principles.
Contradictions are omnipresent in our life, and we are able to live with it because the human brain is tuned to compartmentalize.
While we claim that we will and should live in the moment and enjoy every bit of it, we are either thinking of what happened in the past or analyzing what could happen in future.
There are instances where we tell others and probably ourselves too that we need to have a balanced lifestyle, but we end up spending 75% of our day towards work with another 5-10% wasting time on unnecessary things. It’s easy to preach these things but tough to practice ourselves.
During a challenge, we always tell others – “don’t worry, everything will be fine; look at the brighter side”, but if we are hit with this obstacle ourselves, our instant reaction is “why is this happening to me”. Basically, we talk but don’t walk.
Let’s look at it the other way; it could also be that the same situation could have different perspectives which are contrary to each other. These could be different interpretations which in psychology is called the Rashomon effect.
It is important that we acknowledge and embrace these contradictions as it will help us grow, become stronger, be less judgmental, make more conscious decisions instead of being vulnerable.
