Are you passionate or are you committed?

I’m sure you would have heard this story about a snail, the spectators and the BIG DREAM.

Once there were a group of snails, 25 of them who were thinking of putting up a race to reach from one end of the road to the other. For most of them, it was about passion, thrill, excitement and doing something totally radical, but for few it was about “going on to the other side, looking at a very different aspect and part of life and to start something new.”

The birds, few stray animals that were roaming nearby heard about this and laughed their hearts out. Each one of them said, it’s crazy to even try this out. “Why would you even want to do something as crazy and dangerous as this?”

One of the snails said: ‘We have heard there is an amazing new life on the other side of the road, and we would like to see it for ourselves and yes, we are snails, so we would like to prove to ourselves that we can do this, go past the frenzy traffic, dodge the dangerous pedestrians and reach to the other side.’

Most of the animals and birds said, it’s a waste of time, there is nothing there, some even mocked their size and pace, saying they are never going to be able to reach there. Listening to all this, 7 snails chickened out.

After hearing all this, the race began and the only thing that was being said is “You will lose, this is all a waste, this can’t be done, you are going to be squished, you are a snail.”

Slowly one after the other, the snails started to quit, some even had a panic attack and froze right there in the middle of the road.

As time passed by, there was just one snail who kept moving ahead. Even then there was a lot of mocking and the voices got louder but the little snail kept moving.

Finally, to everyone’s astonishment this little snail reached the other side of the pavement and yes, there was a fresh lettuce and just a little ahead there was a beautiful park right in front of it.

Now filled with shock, all the birds and animals who were mocking, rushed towards this little snail and started praising it. But the little snail paid no heed and took its lettuce and kept moving ahead towards the park right ahead.

Shocked and irritated, these animals yelled out to the other side where the rest of the snails were and wondered if this snail was deaf.

Moral of the story

If you wish to do something, don’t wait for validations and approvals. Just go ahead and do it.

There will be enough people telling you why you shouldn’t do it or why it can’t happen; they are the ones who have never tried.

Some will even say it’s not worth it, but you are not that ‘some’. Maybe it’s exactly what you wanted but you will never know until you try.

Those who couldn’t achieve it themselves will say this is impossible but like they say “It is impossible only till someone makes it happen.”

Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Not listening to people around you or not being aware of every little fact is good. Turning a deaf ear is sometimes good for you.

Life will give you challenges. It’s up to us what we can do. Either we cry and sulk saying WHY ME or we see an opportunity and say bring it on…TRY ME. Challenge is the first step towards success.

This brings me to the point that when you want something, are you passionate about it or are you committed towards it? Till things are going smooth, you will remain passionate but when you are committed, you will see it through no matter what.

People who mocked you earlier will praise you but don’t get impacted by either. Follow your heart and success will always follow you.
